You can change your preferred language in Chrome. Translate pages for you on iPhone, iPad, Android & PC.

Translate webpages in Chrome

When you come across a page written in a language you don't understand, you can use Chrome to translate the page.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome.

  2. Go to a webpage written in another language.

  3. At the top, select the language you want to translate to.

    • To change the default language, tap Settings More languages and select the language.

  4. Chrome will translate the webpage this one time.

    • To always translate pages in this language, tap Settings Always translate [language].

Request translation in Chrome

If you don’t find Translate at the top of a page, you can request a translation.

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Chrome.

  2. Tap More Translate.

If Chrome doesn't offer to translate, try refreshing the webpage. If you still can't tap Translate, the language might not be available for translation.


Change the language of Chrome

You can choose the default language of your Chrome app's menus and settings.

  1. On your Android device, open Chrome.

  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More Settings Languages.

  3. Under “Chrome’s language,” tap the current language.

  4. From the language list, select the language you want.

  5. After the language downloads, in the toolbar, tap Restart.

    • The download is complete when you find “Language ready” under your new language.

Translate webpages in Chrome

When you come across a page written in a language you don't understand, use Chrome to translate the page into the language you want.

  1. On your Android device, open Chrome.

  2. Go to a webpage written in another language.

  3. In the notification at the top of the screen, tap the language that you want to translate the page to.

    • To change the default language:

      1. Tap Settings More languages.

      2. Select the language.

    • To always translate pages in this language, tap Settings Always translate pages in [language].

Not working? Try refreshing the webpage. If you still can't tap Translate, the language might not be available for translation.

If you don’t find a Translate notification at the top of your screen, you can request a translation.

  1. On your Android device, open Chrome.

  2. To the right of the address bar, tap More Translate...

Tip: If you want to translate a language from your list, tap the language and select Offer to translate.


Translate webpages in Chrome

You can use Chrome to translate a page that’s in a language you don't understand.

  1. On your computer, open Chrome.

  2. Go to a webpage that’s in another language.

  3. On the right of the address bar, select Translate.

  4. Select your preferred language.

Tips:

  • If Translate doesn’t work, refresh the webpage.

  • If it still doesn’t work, right-click anywhere on the page. Then, select Translate to [Language].
