Why do my reports show negative tips?

You may see negative values in the Tip Pool Net and Tip Share-Net columns on your breakdown report. This is a normal and expected part of the tip-out process.

  • Negative numbers indicate that an employee, such as a server or bartender, has contributed tips to other staff as part of a tip-sharing agreement or tip pool.

  • Positive numbers indicate that an employee has received tips from a pool or share.

You can hover over the blue circles for more information about each column. It is very common to see negative numbers here for tip earners, such as servers, bartenders, and baristas.}

In this breakdown, you’ll see a list of the Tip Sharing Rules or Pools that applied to the employee (1) and each one of the checks that triggered the Rule or Pool (2).
