How To Edit Shift Information

Editing Shift Information on the Reporting Page

Written by Nathan Andrus

The most straightforward method for editing shift information is to update it on your point-of-sale (POS) system, allowing Tiphaus to sync and override previous data automatically or by syncing manually. See: Reprocessing

You can edit employee shift information by following these steps:

  1. Navigate to the Reporting tab on the main menu.

  2. Select Worked Shifts from the dropdown list.

  3. Locate the specific shift you need to adjust and click the Edit icon (it looks like a pencil) on the far right side of that row.

Important: Please remember that any changes made in Tiphaus are for Tiphaus records only. These edits will not sync back to your Point-of-Sale (POS) system or time-tracking software.

  • From here, you can edit the job code, clock-in and clock-out times, and add declared cash tip amounts and any cash payments the employee received.

Why would you edit a shift’s information?

- You may want to edit an employee’s shift if the job code they used is incorrect. This ensures all Tip-Sharing Rules and Tip Pools trigger correctly. Changes made to data in TipHaus will not be reflected in your POS or Time-Tracking Software. Therefore, you will likely want to update the shift in your POS or Time-Tracking Software for wage purposes.

- You can also fix invalid clock-outs from the Edit shift modal

- To pay an employee an hourly wage for one job code but tip out under the rules for another, you can make a job code edit directly in TipHaus.

- You can also edit the shift’s clock-in and clock-out times to exclude an employee from the current tipping ruleset. By setting both times to the same instant, the employee will have 0 minutes worked and won’t receive tip-outs, as distributions are based on minutes worked.

- If reporting cash tips in TipHaus and an employee forgot to declare cash tips, you can quickly input this under “Cash Tips” on the shift.

- For partial payments of an employee's take-home amount, if the employee is enrolled in the ETA program, you can use the "Cash Paid Out" field when editing the shift to deduct a portion paid via ETA.

How can I remove a shift?

The most straightforward way to delete a shift is by removing it in your POS, labor, or time tracking system where employees clock in. Afterward, initiate a sync with TipHaus; the system will recognize the shift as invalid and delete it.

If you are unable to delete the shift from your source system, you can modify the clock-in and clock-out times to be the same, resulting in zero minutes worked for that shift.

💡Please note that any edits here will permanently override what is coming from the Point of Sale and any updates to the Point of Sale data.
