Fall Back Distributions

Where do tips go if no one is clocked in on the receiving end of a Tip Sharing Rule?

If you set up a rule and the receiving Job Code is not clocked in during the frequency that the rule was set at, then the rule will not activate. For example:

  • During the whole day, for a Daily rule.

  • During the hour for an Hourly rule.

  • During the half-hour for a Half Hour rule.

  • During the sale open-to-close window for a Time of Sale rule.

Without a fallback distribution place, if a receiving Job Code is not clocked in, the tip earner retains tips.

Adding a fallback distribution allows you to designate a secondary receiving Job Code(s) to be next in line. Multiple fallbacks can be implemented for any tip-sharing rule.

Example:

You created a rule that distributes a certain percentage of the server’s tips to the busser on the clock. However, you know that there might not be a busser clocked in from time to time and that, in those cases, the host steps in to help cover the busser’s duties. Therefore, you want the busser’s tips to be allocated to the host whenever there’s no busser clocked in.

Once you’ve added “Host” for the fallback distribution, you could keep adding additional Fallback groups in the same way to make certain that the people who are doing the work are the people receiving the reward.
