When is a Custom Shift useful?
The easiest way to understand when to use the Custom Shift Feature is when you have someone that doesn’t normally clock in but does receive tips, from a Tip Sharing Rule or Tip Pool.
For example, an Event Coordinator, may not need to clock in and out, but they do receive tips from Private Dining Events or Banquets.
These shifts can be treated as a single shift or set up for a recurring schedule. So, if you are running events every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, there could be an automatic clock in/out for a specific job code, that participates in Tip Sharing Rules/Tip Pools but is not an hourly employee.
To set up a Single Custom Shift, you will need to go to the Reporting Page > Worked Shifts > Actions, then select “Manage Custom Shifts”.
In the next display window, you will select “Create Single” to create a Single Custom Shift.
Here you will need to input the Employee Name, Job Code, Start Time, End Time, and Business Date you want this action to take place. Click on Review and Submit to continue.

Once you submit the Custom Shift, you can view it from Reporting > Worked Shifts > choose date > employee name. You can click on the blue button on the right to view details or remove the Custom Shift (see the 2nd image below).
To set up a Recurring Custom Shift, you will need to go to the Reporting Page > Worked Shifts > Actions, then select “Manage Custom Shifts”.

Here you will remove the check in the box (where the red arrow is pointing), to display the days of the week, and keep a green check mark on the days you want the Recurring Custom Shift to take place. Type in Employee Name, Job Code, Start and End Times, and date Effective On. Click on Review and Submit to continue.
