The Employee Sign-Up Process for Earned Tip Access® (ETA)

To begin receiving daily tip payouts through Earned Tip Access®, your employees must download the TipHaus Employee App (Download here: iOS / Android), open the Earned Tip Access® (ETA) tab, and register for their preferred payout method.

💡 Note for Managers: If your employees do not have access or an account for the TipHaus Employee App yet, you can invite them directly from your manager dashboard. Check out our Employee Invitation Guide for step-by-step instructions on how to invite your team.

Employee Action: The employee signs up by logging into their Employee App, navigating to the Earned Tip Access® tab, and selecting a service. They will then complete the registration process via an email link.

  1. HausDirect: After selecting HausDirect in the TipHaus app, the employee will receive an automated email with a secure link. They must open this email link to enter their personal debit card details and finalize the account connection. Once completed, they will be under "Pending Manager's Verification".

    What cards work with HausDirect?

HausDirect supports instant payouts to personal debit cards that operate on the Discover, Visa, or Mastercard networks.

What cards do NOT work with HausDirect?

Certain card types are typically rejected by the system, including:

    • Business Cards: HausDirect only works with personal debit cards.

    • Digital Wallet & Fintech Cards: Cards from products such as Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, and Netspend.

    • Non-Standard Cards: Gift cards, prepaid cards, or cards tied to digital-only wallets. To ensure successful payouts, employees should use a Visa or Mastercard debit card issued by a traditional bank.

    • Physically Unused Cards: Cards that have never been used physically in person may fail due to a lack of activation or usage history.

    • Fraud Flags: If a card is flagged for fraud, updating the card information in the TipHaus Employee app can resolve the issue.

  2. HausMoney™: After selecting HausMoney™, an invitation code is automatically sent to the employee's email. To complete registration, the employee must:

    1. Download the separate HausMoney App:

      • Download HausMoney for iOS

      • Download HausMoney for Android

    2. Open the HausMoney app, enter their email invitation code, and complete setup to activate their account and order their physical card. If you want to learn more, you can check our HausMoney Onboarding Guide here.

⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: The TipHaus Employee App and the HausMoney App are two completely separate applications.

Employees must log into the TipHaus Employee App first to select HausMoney™ under Earned Tip Access® (ETA) and generate their unique invitation code. Registration cannot be completed directly inside the HausMoney App without completing this initial step in the TipHaus Employee App first.

Understanding Registration Statuses (HausMoney™ Users)

After the employee completes the sign-up for HausMoney, they will see two different verifications:

  • Pending Manager Verification: The employee has completed setup and is awaiting approval from your management team in the dashboard.

  • Under Review: The registration is pending identity verification on TipHaus's end. If an employee remains in this status for more than 48 hours, please contact support@tiphaus.com for assistance.

How do I approve an employee for Earned Tip Access® (ETA)?

Manager Verification: After an employee submits their registration, their status will appear as "Pending Manager Verification." To verify an employee's sign-up, navigate to the Earned Tip Access® page on your TipHaus dashboard and click on the "Completed Sign-Up" alert.

Select the eligibility start date; the Effective Date determines when the employee begins receiving ETA payouts. The employee will receive daily payouts for all tips earned on or after this selected date. Any tips earned prior to the Effective Date will automatically flow to their standard paycheck.

⚠️ Important Note on Locked Pay Periods & Effective Dates: If your organization restricts payouts within locked or closed pay periods, always select an Effective Date within the current pay period.

If you select a date from a past or locked pay period (e.g., last pay period or two pay periods ago), the system will not be able to process daily payouts for those past tips.

Always double-check your venue's policy with management before approving start dates. If you have questions regarding your account configuration, contact support@tiphaus.com.

Why are no tips available to payout for an employee with a fully approved (green) status?

If an employee appears as fully approved with a green status indicator but shows $0 Available to Payout, their earnings likely occurred prior to their official activation date.

To verify an employee's start date:

  1. Navigate to the Earned Tip Access® (ETA) page on your TipHaus Manager Dashboard.

  2. Hover your mouse over the Green Status badge next to the employee's name.

  3. Check the displayed Effective Date.

Note: Daily payouts only apply to tips earned on or after the Effective Date. Any tips earned prior to this date will automatically be processed through your organization's standard paycheck.

Navigating the Employee App ETA Tab (ETA Employee View & Metrics)

Once verified, employees can monitor their payouts directly from the ETA tab in their app. Employees can view two dedicated widgets containing detailed information about their earnings and daily payouts. Understanding these metrics will help you answer employee questions.

ETA Breakdown

  • Available to Payout: Total eligible tips ready for immediate payout during the selected pay period.

  • Amount Reserved: A temporary percentage of eligible tips set aside by your organization for reconciliation or tax purposes. Reserved amounts are held temporarily during the pay period and paid out on the employee's regular paycheck.

  • Amount Paid Out: Total tip earnings already transferred to the employee for the selected period.

  • Cash Paid Out: Total cash tips recorded for the employee during the selected period.

  • Net Amount Received: Final net tip earnings received after payouts and adjustments.

ETA Summary

  • Eligible Take-Home: Total tip earnings eligible for daily payout within the filtered pay period.

  • Fee Per Payout: Transaction fee applied per payout ($0 for HausMoney™; custom rate set by your venue for HausDirect).

  • Effective Date: The date the employee's ETA active status began.

  • Total Payouts Received (Payout History): A line-item history displaying every individual payout transaction processed for the employee.

⚠️ Note on Date Filtering: The date range selector on the ETA tab defaults to Pay Period. Your employees can filter by specific pay periods to view historic data.

Managing Payout Methods

Employees manage all of their daily payout preferences directly inside the app. By scrolling down to the bottom of the main ETA tab, employees will see a banner labeled Go to ETA Settings. Tapping this tab opens the central menu where they can update debit card information, switch between payout services, or opt out of daily payouts entirely.

How to Update a HausDirect Card?

For employees currently enrolled in HausDirect who need to update or replace their linked debit card:

  1. The employee must already be signed up for HausDirect.

  2. Inside "Go to ETA Settings", they tap Update HausDirect Card.

  3. This action automatically sends an email to the employee containing a secure link to enter their new debit card details and finalize the update.

Changing Payout Method for the First Time

If an employee is currently signed up for one service (either HausDirect or HausMoney™) and wants to sign up for the second service for the first time:

  1. Navigate to Go to ETA Settings and Tap Change Payment Method.

  2. Select the unregistered payout method to begin its initial registration and verification process.

After they submit all the information for the new ETA payment. Your action is required at this stage. You must approve the employee's request for the new service. Once you approve it, the switch is completed automatically.

Make sure to select the correct effective date:

Switching Between Approved Services

Employees who have completed registration and received approval for both HausDirect and HausMoney™ can toggle between services freely whenever they choose. They can follow the same steps as switching payment methods for the first time.

  • An employee can use one method for today's payout, switch methods, and have their very next payout deposited into the new payout method.

  • The payout method displayed prominently on the main ETA tab always reflects the active account currently configured to receive upcoming payouts.

The name of the payout service displayed on the ETA page is the one currently active to receive their next payout.

How Employees Opt Out of Earned Tip Access®?

If an employee prefers to stop daily payouts and return to receiving all tip earnings on their standard paycheck. Any remaining tip earnings that have not yet been paid out will automatically flow to their organization's standard paycheck:

  1. Inside Go to ETA Settings, the employee taps Opt Out.

Note: You can verify the total earnings previously transferred to the employee before opting out by reviewing the Amount Paid Out column on the ETA page in your manager dashboard.

How Do Employees Opt Back in for Earned Tip Access®?

If an employee who previously opted out decides they want to restart daily payouts:

  1. In "Go to ETA Settings", the "Opt In Earned Tip Access" option will appear in the same modal where they originally opted out.

  2. The employee taps Opt In Earned Tip Access and confirms their request in the app.

  3. Manager Action Required: The reactivation request will send a notification to your TipHaus Manager Dashboard. You must navigate to the ETA page and approve their request, exactly as you would for a first-time sign-up.

  4. Once approved, the employee is all set to resume receiving daily payouts.
