Customize Tip Distributions for Private Events, Banquets, and Large Table Tops

Events & Teams is our newest, enhanced functionality in TipHaus that allows for flexibility on those “one-off” use cases for tip distribution.

Some common scenarios that are perfect for the Events & Teams functionality are:

  • Multiple Servers and Bussers handling a large tabletop

  • A Private Event or Banquet with a unique tip structure

  • A Custom Team setup for a unique layout

  • Tipping out event staff who are also working "normal" tables

Events & Teams functionality in TipHaus gives you the flexibility to customize your tips and service charges on a check-by-check basis the way you see fit.

How to Create a Custom Team Adjustment

To create a Custom Team Adjustment, you’ll head to the Reporting tab and click Custom Team Adjustment under the actions dropdown. Then, you will select the location you’re looking to adjust the tips for and click “Select Sales”.

You will be prompted to select one or multiple checks to create a custom team for. After selecting the checks you want to adjust, you will click “Customize Team”, which will bring up the step-by-step modal to adjust the team.

Our step-by-step modal then guides you through completing the three necessary steps to customize the team distribution: Select the Tip Types, Select the Employees, and Give a Final Review.

1. Select the Tip Types to Distribute (Credit Card Tip, Gift Card Tip, and Gratuity Service Charge). You can choose one or multiple tip options for your Custom Team Adjustment.

2. Select the Employees on the Custom Team.

  • After selecting the employees, you can then distribute the tips equally across employees, or create a distribution based on points

    • Using the "Points" functionality, you can also put in exact dollar amounts into each employee's point value, as long as those dollar amounts add up to the total dollars available on the selected checks.

    • Using the "Points" functionality, you can also put in exact percentages into each employee's point value, as long as those percentages add up to 100% across all employees selected.

3. Final Custom Team Review with optional Tip Share rule enablement.

  • When turning on Tip Share rule enablement, this enables any tip share rules to be applied to the sale(s) you're adjusting.

  • Tip Share enablement will only apply to the sales owner if their job code is a part of a Tip Share rule.

    • If the sales owner does not have a tip share rule they are a part of, then no tip share rules will happen.

    • Tip sharing does not come from the employees who are a part of the custom team adjustment distribution. They come exclusively from the owner of the sale.

  • Enabling standard tip sharing rules on select sales will not enable standard tip pools. The Custom Team Adjustment will take the place of any tip pools on those sales.

Once your rule has been submitted, you can see which checks have a custom team applied to them by looking for the blue team icon next to each customized check. If you want to remove a custom team, you can click that blue icon, and click "Remove Team" to remove the custom team assignment from that check.
